Living Your Life Purpose

Living Your Life Purpose

A question that is often asked is, what is my life purpose? I didn’t realise it until today, that when I think about my life purpose, I see it as an end result, a destination.

The roads I take to get to that destination, are the teaching paths, the learning paths, offered to me by the richness and diversity of the lessons I learn along the way.

In a moment of insight or you could call it illumination the following realisation came to me. That our life purpose is to overcome our own weaknesses, and it is our humanity our desire to reach out, explore and learn new things that is the motivation behind it.

To think of life in terms of reaching a destination, or coming to the end of the need to question, is simply not part of our genetic makeup. Since man first stood upright and walked the earth, his desire to learn and expand his own knowledge and awareness has continued to grow.

It is this growth that keeps us pushing the boundaries further and further outward. It came to me today, that there are no limits to what we can achieve. There is no boundary in a far off place or distant time to which we are restricted. The only limitations we have are those born of our own making. But even they are an illusion, ready to be easily brushed aside the moment a shift occurs in our conscious awareness.

I would like to share with you the following passage by Marianne Williamson from her book ‘A return to love’:-

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Why would we be afraid of our own power, I hear some of you asking yourselves. I believe it is because, by accepting how powerful we are we then have to take responsibility for our lives. Many prefer to see themselves as the powerless victim, because it saves them from having to make difficult decisions, or taking the blame for things when they go wrong.

Have you ever seen the transformation that occurs, when a child or a friend succeeds at doing something they never thought themselves capable of. It truly is an amazing sight isn’t it. It as as if someone switched a light on inside them. This is all because they suddenly realised how powerful they were. We are all capable of the same thing.

My purpose in life is to affirm each day that ‘I am’ living my life’s purpose. It is not in the future it is now in this moment. Physically, emotionally and spiritually ‘I am’ growing, ‘I am’ learning and ‘I will’ continue to keep pushing my own boundaries.

Going Into The Cave

Going Into The Cave

Have you ever wanted to shut out the world and retreat into a warm, dark, safe place. A place where there are no demands on your time, no emotional influences from others, a place of perfect peace.

I believe there comes a point in persons life when they need a sacred space such as this. A place where they can be undisturbed, still and tranquil. A place where they can rest their minds, their soul, and absorb all the lessons all the knowledge they have acquired up to date.

The mystics and the holy men knew the importance of this and they would often take themselves off for weeks at a time to find the solitude that their spirit needed. Whether it was deep into the forests, far out into the desert, or high up into the mountains.

There comes a point when you as a spiritual seeker will feel the need, an overwhelming desire to get away or be alone. You may want to distance yourself from the people around you. Being sensitive, we absorb the energies of others, and day after day it can sap the energy from you. There comes a point when you find it hard to distinguish how you are feeling to the feelings of those around you.

When this happens, do not be afraid to retreat, to make some time just for yourself. It is not a selfish thing, to need time to rejuvenate and recharge your own emotional and spiritual batteries. I have had this happen to me, and I remember someone saying to me once, ‘oh, you need to go into your cave’. I thought about this and it did make sense.

Not literally going deep underground, as for me that would be a nightmare, as I do not like confined spaces. But symbolically, it represented the deep need within me to retreat deeply into myself.

It can also be likened to going back to the womb like state. To be cocooned from the affects of life and the people around you. Especially if life has been particularly stressful and you desperately need some peace.

When you are overwhelmed by the need to be solitary, do not fight it. Go with it, it is something you really need. Recognize that this is part of your spiritual growth. Understand, that it is within this time that you spend in your ‘cave’, that you will find what you need to take with you, on the next stage of your life journey.

Do not be surprised if you become extremely emotional and tears are near to the surface. It is the tenderness of your own heart and soul speaking to you. Those tears and feelings are important, as they are part of the birthing process of the person you are becoming.

The Soul And Intuition

The Soul And Intuition

I believe that our soul is constantly sending us information to help us along our spiritual path. Intuition is one of our inborn tools the soul uses to relay messages to us. Intuitive messages can come as a sudden “knowing,” gut feelings, thoughts, images, emotions, or bodily sensations. Intuition is a powerful source of information, creativity, and inspiration. When we follow our intuition our life flows more easily, things seem to fall into place, and we are generally more satisfied because we know we are following our soul path.

We all have intuitive potential. It is not something that only a few gifted people possess. It is a natural ability that we all have and a skill we can all develop. As children we freely access our intuition. Unfortunately, we often receive negative messages from our parents, teachers, or peers and we then begin to doubt our intuition.

Once we lose that trust in our intuitive knowledge and ourselves we begin to close down that channel of information. We still receive intuitive messages, but we ignore them. When we do not honour these intuitive impulses, our ability to hear our intuitive voice often fades and we miss valuable information.

How do we develop our Intuition? Fortunately, we never really lose the ability to be intuitive. With a little patience and practice we can rediscover our powerful intuitive potential. The first step is to increase our awareness of the intuitive impulses that we already receive. It is very important to trust and honor the natural intuitive abilities we already have.

There are a variety of ways in which we can do this. One is to practice meditation. Meditation, quietens the mind, stills the mental chatter, and enables us to shut out the many distractions that go on around us. To begin with start with just 5 minutes and slowly build up on that. The whole idea to begin with, is to get the mind to get used to this state of quietness. It will begin to expect it and over time, the period you can remain in this state will lengthen.

Develop good breathing habits. Many people breathe incorrectly. They breathe shallowly, inhaling from the chest, when to breathe correctly one needs to inhale deeply causing the diaphragm to expand. Correct breathing, helps to oxygenate the blood, and clears the mind. It is also very relaxing, and a great way of dissolving any tension or anxiety.

Another way of relaxing and of getting into a state, which is conducive to meditation and so connecting with and listening to your intuition; is through music. Find a piece that calms and soothes you. It does not have to be relaxation music, it can be anything that you love and that induces a tranquil state of mind.

Life can at times be very difficult, and often we are at a loss to know how to take the next step. Your soul, knows what you need and what your purpose is. By making time in your life to develop the connection between soul and intuition, you will ensure the best possible conditions by which you can follow your life path and your true purpose. Something I believe to be very worthwhile and can only enrich your life.
