We are all aware of the five main senses; Sight, Smell, Touch, Sound & Taste. But what about our other senses? Intuition, imagination, desire, compassion and resonance with the energies of life. I believe, developing these senses creates our spiritual compass; The deep joy, the love we hold in our hearts and our intuiative senses, is the needle and the energetic flows of the universe and God are the magnetic and electric fields.

There are times when intellectual analogies can only give a hint or cannot even describe the way of the heart, the way of our energies. Part of developing these senses, is to learn to accept them, the good and the bad, the pleasure and the pain, because they all have something to teach us. Pain & pleasure, sorrow and joy are all children of the same mother. it is said, that the depth in which we feel pain, is also the capacity we have to experience and feel great joy and love.

Our imagination is what fuels our creative gifts, it is where our dreams, goals and aspirations spring from. Desire, is simply a manifestation of our imagination. For we feed our dreams with our desire to make things happen. Compassion, is the thread that connects us to each other. Compassion is the ability to walk in another person’s shoes, but still retain the ability to distinguish what is yours and what is anothers. I feel this is also the gift of insight, enabling us to help others without being caught up in the emotional attachment to their situation. Resonance, is the ability to tune in to the world around you on so many different levels, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

As human beings, I believe that we have the potential for so much, we are so much more then we think we are. By exploring all your senses not just the accepted five senses you are opening the door to a world that is deeper, richer and multi faceted. By exploring all your senses, your ability to express yourself increases. Your understanding of others expands and in doing so, it can improve all your relationships. The most important relationship of all, is the one you have with yourself. You come to understand your own needs more, you are less judgemental of yourself as well as others.

With the expansion of your emotional senses comes the expansion of the mind. You start to see yourself and your situation from a more objective point of view. Your sense of will and self discipline increases. With clarity comes the ability to see through the lies we tell ourselves to justify what we have done that we regret. We start to see through the veil of illusion. Once this happens, things can begin to change in a positive way. Even the pain of facing up to poor decisions is over riden by the joy of freedom that self realisation and awareness brings. So today, make the decision to explore and develop all your senses and honour the real you.

Creating A Shift In Perspective

How often have you heard it said, that if we want to create a positive change in our lives, we need to create a shift in our perspective. What is perspective? Perspective is the way in which we view our surroundings, the people in our lives and the way we think about ourselves.

We did not just wake up one morning, with a perception. It has grown and evolved over time. Everything that has happened to us to date, colours our perception of the world around us. Our likes and dislikes, our self belief and what we see as our strengths and limitations.

But I want you to consider for a moment, just how accurate are we in our own self assessment? So many of us are so lacking in confidence, can we be truly unbiased. Our friends and family often have more confidence and faith in us, then we do.

Is it fair to limit yourself to what you believe is true about You! In reality, you have no idea, what your real potential is do you? Or what you are capable of doing or becoming. The truth is, non of us are, until we try. I am sure we have all at some point in our lives, tried something new, and found to our surprise, that we were actually good at it. What a shock! But what a pleasure! This is just one aspect of perception, the perception you have about yourself. Now lets look at life.

When we are sad, feeling unwell or vulnerable. The world can seem a grey and frightening place to be. The world looms large and nosily in front of you. Yet, if you could find just one thing, one small example of beauty, love and kindness, you would see how the world can tilt and change. Things seem lighter, warmer, more colourful, and safe. Just one thing, can make this difference. When you find one thing, look for another, and another.

Going within, finding stillness and peace, can also create a change in your perception. No matter how the world on the outside appears to us, if inside, there is turmoil, doubt and constant mental chatter, it is hard to focus on anything. Meditation, or simply relaxing with your eyes closed to some beautiful music, can be the start of a inner shift.

If you stop worrying for one second, the world will not cease to spin, and no one will get hurt. Give yourself permission, to let go. Surrender to life and accept things as they happen. Believe that in some way, it has a meaning a purpose, even if at this point in time you cannot see or understand what it is. Simply doing this can be so liberating.

To create a shift in your perspective, in your life, requires you to let go of the belief, that your thoughts, idea’s about who you are and the world around you, are set in stone. Let go of the chains that tie you to previous experiences, especially if they have been negative ones. Let go of judgments and expectations. Be open, expect the unexpected, and welcome it. Life is beautiful!

I have long noticed, that being out in the countryside or even sitting in the garden, surrounded by living growing things, seems to envelope me in a calm and soothing energy. My body, in spite of itself relaxes. My breathing becoming calm, deep and regular. That slowing down of thought and mind I have to strive for, within the confines of my home, here seems to happen naturally.

Is it too simplistic to assume that all this happens because I just like being outside and nature relaxes me. Or is there something else going on?

I believe that the earth is a sentient and self regulating entity, that adapts and maintains the suitable conditions for life on our planet. This process seems to happen with ease, a fluid and natural thing. Do we as human beings have the ability to tap into this phenomena, and in doing so, can we use it as a means to re balance our own natural energies, that are often out of sync?

Man has had a sacred and spiritual connection to the earth since time immemorial. Not simply because we have depended on the land to feed and sustain us. But on a much deeper and profound level. Having always had a natural affinity myself with the energies of the earth. The rocks, the trees and water sources I can understand this.

On a spiritual level, there are many places in nature where we feel the touch of the sacred. We sanctify these places as somewhere we can directly connect to the source of all things. The grand creator who formed the earth and ourselves. This in itself I believe creates a symbiotic relationship between man and nature.

The nature writer Barry Lopez, describes it in the following way. “On his evening walks while camped in the Arctic regions of Alaska, he would bow in homage to the “intense and concentrated beauty”, to the birds and animals who reveled in the freezing conditions, and “to the serene Arctic light that came over the land like breath, like breathing”. Here the outer landscape merges with the inner terrain and takes ‘our’ breath away”.

Being in wild nature engenders a sense of mystery about the world; a sense of awe or wonderment about the earth; a sense of connectedness or oneness with the natural world; a profound feeling of transcendence (within and without); a belief in a power greater than oneself; and an appreciation of the beauty in nature. It sparks feelings of inner peace, hope, joy and empowerment; promotes physical and emotional well-being, and brings about ‘significant’ changes in attitude and behaviour.

I know myself when I gaze upon a mountain range, I have a deep sense of being in the presence of something of great majesty. I feel so tiny and insignificant. My sense of self just a flash, a minute spark in the grand scheme of things. And yet, I also feel as if ‘I’ am part of the rock, an overpowering sense of kinship I can’t define. A strange paradox, to feel so insignificant and temporary and yet ancient and eternal all at the same time.

I believe, that the way in which human beings treat the earth, is a reflection of the way in which we treat ourselves. Just as when we abuse the earth and take away her natural resources without thought of consequence. Do we abuse our own bodies, putting it under tremendous pressure to perform without replenishing it.

It is said that human beings go through cycles of growth. The cells in the body are constantly dying and being replaced by new ones. So when it is said, that each moment or day we change and are reborn, it isn’t just a metaphor, it literally does happen.

Mentally our experiences are changing us, idea’s, belief systems are all growing and evolving. Life is always generating a condition of flux and transformation within. No wonder, we suffer life’s growing pains which we call, longing, frustration, euphoria, depression, all these are symptoms of the inner upheaval.

I often laugh to myself, when I think of when I was a child and a teenager, how I thought that being an ‘Adult’ would be wonderful. All grown up, having all the answers, never making mistakes!! How wrong I was! The truth is, we never have all the answers, we still make mistakes and we never stop ‘growing up’.

The mind and spirit never stop growing, but the physical body starts to age. As physically we start to slow down, the mental and spiritual aspects of being human, literally speed up. In some ways, I feel more like an nervous insecure teenager now, then I did when I was one! The only difference is, in those days I had my parents and extended older family members to turn to for support and guidance.

Being a ‘teenager’ in spiritual terms, comes to us at a time in our lives when for many, we no longer have that emotional support system in place. Also not all we are close to and who know us, understand this inner drive that pushes us onward, this overwhelming desire within, to question, to learn. It is like we are pulled on invisible wires toward something that we cannot explain or fully understand ourselves. Yet we know it is there just as we know the sun is in the heavens, even if we cannot see it on a cloudy day.

Intuitively, we have now reached that point in our awareness, when we ‘know’, we no more can seek outside of ourselves for answers. This is the time of our initiation, a time when we alone, must journey into the recesses of our being. We alone must find the key that will unlock that part of ourselves, that has been hidden. That secret part of ourselves that knows all the answers to all the questions our lips have burned to ask.

It is also a doorway, a connection to the Divine energy source, that we are all a part of. Opening that door and walking through it, will be our Graduation Day. At this moment, we are ‘a-part-from’ rather then ‘a-part-of’ this source. I believe Life is simply the journey from one to the other.

It is said that Life is Growth, but Growth is Optional. Ultimately, your metamorphosis will be governed, by your personal commitment to your own Spiritual Growth.

The Sacred Feminine is a the term we use for that mysterious source of all life, the wellspring of creation. The Feminine Force that births both male and female forms. What does it mean when someone praises the divine feminine? Or when someone says the divine feminine is the way to healing and enlightenment? Or that the divine feminine is reawakening our world at this time, heralding a return to higher frequencies of light and thought? Is this a Christian concept? Buddhist? Pagan? New Age? Is it tied to religion? Or is it a spiritual concept? What is its history and where are its roots?

The answer is simple. The divine feminine is the goddess is in all traditions, and has been since the beginning of time. These traditions are a mystical, magical, powerful, part of primal Mother Earth. They symbolize balance and healing, renewal and restoration.

Sophia is a very ancient form of the Goddess of Wisdom. She is known in many traditions by different names but she carries the mantle of intuitive intelligence. Sometimes she is Isis, spreading her wings of ascension. Sometimes she is Asherah, the original bread of life. Mary Magdalene is said to have been an incarnation of Sophia.

The Old Testament’s King Solomon had a deep and profound relationship with Sophia. She was revered as the wise bride of Solomon by the Jewish people. In Greek mythology, Athena was the goddess of wisdom and weaving; the owl and the olive tree were sacred to her.The symbol of Sophia is the dove, depicted as the bird descending from the heavens, known in Christianity as the Holy Spirit.

Isis is the Egyptian goddess of magic, fertility, and motherhood. She has gone by many names, such as the Queen of the Heavens, Star of the Sea, Light-Giver of Heaven, Lady of Green Crops, and She Who Knows How To Make Right Use Of The Heart.

She is the Great Mother of fertility, of creation, of life and death. Some see the Mary, the mother of Jesus, as an incarnation of Isis. The exotic and mysterious Black Madonnas have their roots in the pre-Christian goddess traditions. In southern Provencal tradition, the Black Madonna is associated with St. Sara, the patron saint of the gypsies. Many believe the European shrines to the Black Virgin have special healing powers. These energetic places often have a sacred water source and a Celtic foundation. The Black Madonna is another form of the feminine principle.

So what is the feminine principle? Simply put, her principles are ones of nurturing, of love, understanding, compassion, insight, intuition, creativity, forgiveness, healing, and wisdom.

Whatever your beliefs and choice of traditions are, whether She appears to you as Ishtar or Mari, Gaia or Quan Yin, as the great Mother Mary or Magdalene, or as one of the pantheon of goddesses from ancient Egypt or Greece or Rome, to Africa or the Middle East, to the cults of the Black Madonna, or whether she is spun from one of the archetypes of the indigenous tribes, such as Spider Woman, the divine feminine is still the primordial She who creates from a central source.

All women carry within themselves the essence of the divine feminine. It is for this reason, over time women have been subjugated by patriarchal societies. In ancient and pre christian times, women were revered for their natural powers and powerful intuitive connection to the divine. Sadly history has tried to take away that power, by undermining, corrupting and distorting the truly pure and divine source of that feminine energy. Women today, still have to prove they are equal to men in a very patriarchal world. Women are the major caregivers, the nurturer’s and for the most part the ones who succor future generations.

Too many women today lead lives in which they feel dis-empowered, weak, helpless and have no say or control over what they do. I believe, by re-connecting to the divine feminine energy within themselves, they can reclaim the power of their birthright. Embrace it, and use it to lead happy, emotionally rich and fulfilling lives.

Looking Beyond The Surface

There is no doubt, that when meet people for the first time, it is the way they look and the clothes they wear, that make the biggest impressions upon us. In primitive cultures, it was often how people identified themselves to each other. Physical colouring, the style of clothing, even tattoo’s that people wore, told other people where they came from and what their wealth and status was, within their community.

Because of the way society has changed and the fact that opportunities to develop and improve ourselves have been made available to anyone with the the desire, intelligence and motivation to do so. The abilities, wealth or social status of someone is far more difficult to discern. Though specialised and highly skilled professions still bring with them a respect that I believe is well deserved. But, I do not believe that this is a criteria for deciding whether or not someone is deemed worthy of knowing, befriending or respecting.

What is perceived as being an admirable quality changes according to what we ourselves are interested in. Unfortunately, as we interact with others, many of us have difficulty looking beyond the surface to see what lies beneath. For the most part, I believe that a holding on to the idea that a first impression of someone is the right one, is unfair and often not an accurate one.

I believe people have far more depth and complexity to their nature then anyone can possibly know, based on a first encounter. Not everyone is confident or at ease with new people. They can come over as lacking in confidence or poor speakers. They may appear arrogant, standoffish and disinterested because they avoid eye contact, when all they are is simply shy.

My mother always loved the expression, ‘still waters run deep’. Or ‘it is the quiet ones you have to watch’. For me aside from the obvious, it is not just that first impressions can be misleading, but they can be inaccurate. Another good reason to take your time! I believe many of us have had the experience of meeting someone who on first acquaintance made a wonderful first impression, only to discover once we had got to really know them better, they were not what we thought they were. Those who we thought were friendly and kind, turned out to be quite the opposite.

Looking below the surface, is something that we can also relate to in other areas of our every day life. I am guessing acting impulsively is something we have all done. Often people make hasty unthought out decisions, because they have been misled, or have only seen what they wanted to see. Learning to look beyond the obvious is a skill that can be cultivated in more ways then one, something we can all benefit from.

The direct translation of the word “clairvoyance” is “clear sight”.It is defined as the ability to perceive or even see with the “mind’s eye” something that is going on in a remote location without any previous knowledge of the event.
